About this data
What is the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood)?
The Scottish Parliament, also known as Holyrood, is the devolved legislature of Scotland. It has 129 Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) elected using the Additional Member System (AMS), with 73 constituency MSPs and 56 regional list MSPs.
How does Holyrood polling differ from Westminster polling?
Holyrood polling measures voting intentions for Scottish Parliament elections, which can differ significantly from Westminster voting intentions. Scottish voters may vote differently in devolved elections, and the AMS electoral system means seat projections work differently than Westminster's first-past-the-post system.
What is the Additional Member System (AMS)?
AMS is a mixed electoral system used for Holyrood. Voters cast two votes: one for a constituency MSP (first-past-the-post) and one for a party on a regional list. 73 seats are constituency seats, and 56 seats are allocated from regional lists to ensure proportional representation.
How is the polling average calculated?
The polling average shown on this page is a trailing 7-poll moving average, calculated from the most recent polls regardless of pollster. This matches the 7-point moving average used in the trend chart, smoothing out noise from individual surveys while remaining responsive to genuine shifts in opinion.
What is the difference between constituency and regional polls?
In Scotland's AMS system, voters cast two votes. The constituency vote elects 73 MSPs by first-past-the-post in local constituencies. The regional vote elects 56 MSPs by proportional representation across 8 regions using the D'Hondt method. Polling firms typically ask both questions separately, and voting intentions can differ between the two.
Which pollsters are tracked?
PollCheck tracks all major BPC-member pollsters who conduct Scottish Parliament voting intention polls, including YouGov, Survation, Ipsos in Scotland, Norstat, Find Out Now, Panelbase, and More in Common. We include all published polls with standard methodology.
How often are Holyrood polls released?
Holyrood polls are released less frequently than Westminster polls, typically monthly or quarterly unless an election is approaching. As the 7 May 2026 election draws nearer, polling frequency is increasing significantly.
